About Skomlin Press
Skomlin Press publishes world literature in English: novels and novellas from French, Russian, Polish, German and Spanish, alongside English classics that belong beside them. The list favours books that reward rereading, forgotten classics restored to print and important newer work.
The Name
Skomlin is a village in central Poland, where the press has its ancestral and cultural roots. The press began as Onesuch Press, a play on the Nonesuch Press. We took the name Skomlin to reflect our European leanings and readership.

The Comédienne carries more than 500 corrections to its 1920 translation. In Oriental Encounters, a publisher’s note explains why Pickthall’s thee and thou became you.
We honour all our current translators and prominently attribute them on each cover. Translators’ biographies are listed on our site.
Many older titles carry an essay or introduction that gives readers what the original audiences already knew, from the Warsaw garden theatres of the 1890s to Pickthall’s life in the East.
Skomlin publishes six books by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, five of them in new translations: Beauty on Earth, Derborence, Farinet’s Gold, What if the sun... and Riversong of the Rhône. The last two appear in English for the first time.
